The new Hercule Poirot novel – another brilliant murder mystery that can only be solved by the eponymous Belgian detective and his ‘little grey cells’.

Since the publication of her first book in 1920, Agatha Christie wrote 33 novels, two plays and more than 50 short stories featuring Hercule Poirot. Now, for the first time ever, the guardians of her legacy have approved a brand new novel featuring Dame Agatha's most beloved creation.

Hercule Poirot's quiet supper in a London coffee house is interrupted when a young woman confides to him that she is about to be murdered. She is terrified, but begs Poirot not to find and punish her killer. Once she is dead, she insists, justice will have been done.

Later that night, Poirot learns that three guests at the fashionable Bloxham Hotel have been murdered, a cufflink placed in each one’s mouth. Could there be a connection with the frightened woman? While Poirot struggles to put together the bizarre pieces of the puzzle, the murderer prepares another hotel bedroom for a fourth victim…

In the hands of internationally bestselling author Sophie Hannah, Poirot plunges into a mystery set in 1920s London – a diabolically clever puzzle that can only be solved by the talented Belgian detective and his ‘little grey cells’.

1I hated the book
By FaffingAbout
I got this book free courtesy of my Sunday Times membership. I hated the book, it was a tough job to finish it.I was wary of it straight away because as so many others have pointed out, there is no way Poirot would leave his beautiful apartment to stay in digs, it is preposterous. The new policeman, Catchpool, was terminally thick, a very boring narrator and had a phobia of dead bodies, which was drummed into us with the oft-repeated 'Hold his hand, Edward'. All he actually wanted to do was sit by the fire doing crosswords. The plot was ridiculous but you could live with that if the characterisation of Poirot was done properly but it was totally wrong. This is not the Poirot we all know and love. The whole book was beyond dire, for all the reasons that far more eloquent reviewers have outlined. Thank goodness I didn't pay for it,I have a Sophie Hannah book on the to-be-read pile, 'Kind of Cruel', not sure if it's worth tackling that one now.

1all in all very disappointed. I am surprised that the Christie establishment liked ...

No, no, no. A very strange attempt at Poirot - I admit to not finishing the book as the final deduction scene, always so precise with Poirot, became so complicated that I could not hold all the wispy threads together. It rambled on & on until I decided that actually, I didn't really care. The characters are not right, only the smallest parts of Poirot's character have been used, all in all very disappointed. I am surprised that the Christie establishment liked this. English country life ? Not as I know it - fantasy island perhaps.

5Thoroughly enjoyed it!
By Annie
I have dithered for ages about buying this book due to the very mixed reviews. I finally downloaded the sample on my kindle and enjoyed that, so on that basis I bought the rest of the book and am very happy I did! I ended up finished it in two evenings, reading late into the second night, as was desperate to know the outcome! I thoroughly enjoyed it and really don't understand all the negative reviews - I will be looking at the other book by the same author now!
