I love this book so much - so much food for thought. Ms Doughty strikes a fine balance between funny/irreverent and serious/compassionate as she discusses her experiences in the death industry and how death and mourning trends worldwide compare to our Western ones, framed in part through her own struggles with mortality. It might not sound like a book you are particularly interested in reading, but as death is coming for us all, there really is no reason to not indulge! She's so honest, so informative, and so tongue-in-cheek that pulling back the curtain between us and death is nowhere near the horrifying, traumatic experience we've been lead to believe it is. If you're scared of death, curious about the industry, or just love non-fiction, this is so worth reading. Would also highly recommend checking out her web series on youtube if you want more. Love this lady!!!

Very interesting book. Ive always wondered how bodies are cremated.I got this book around the time my mum was diagnosed with terminal blood cancer and in a strange way this book gave me comfort.I am not like other people. I find death fascinating, especially with our great need to preserve our bodies at whatever cost. And the way we have now turnt the funeral industry into a seamless clinical process where you never have to get involved if you dont want too.Now I have been confronted with the possibility of real death in my immediate family I found this book helped me to take away the mysticism.I also watch her Youtube Channel and I love the fact her writing style is just like her videos. Very refreshing :-)

I bought this and H is for Hawk around the time my Grandad died.Although Doughty talks about the American culture around death, I still found this an insightful & grounding book that helped me feel & work my way through my Grandad's death. You rock Caitlin Doughty for your straight talking, humanitarian death talk. Thank you. I recommend looking at The Order of the Good Death website. The book arrived promptly.
