I enjoyed this book very much

Catherine Cookson can certainly write un-put-downable stuff. Based, once again, around the Fifteen Streets where she herself grew up, it contains prejudice, violence, poverty, love, loyalty and conflict, and is a real page turner. I was almost sorry to get to the end.

Unfortunately I lost my kindle on the flight out to Spain and had nothing to read whilst on holiday! I browsed the shelves of the hotel's biblioteque and discovered a rather faded copy of the adventures of Mary Ann. Read it within a day and rediscovered my love for this great author. I have bought a new tablet,downloaded my kindle library and immediately invested in more of the same. Colour Blind is a rather sombre storyline that brings characters to life and captures the prejudices and ignorance that prevailed within society at the begining of the 20th centuary, just as the world is about to go to war. The characters are jaunty and determined geordies living the austere poverty that prevailed during this era and facing up to what now seems improbable prejudices, some of which we cannot even begin to imagine. It is history encapsulated within a ficticious story that we must never forget. A must read and can't wait to buy more of the late great Catherine Cookson.
