In the last decades, several international authors have been leading their research in environmental ethics and a growing attention has been paid toward this debate in Italy, too. This volume is original in his scope, because it stages a dialogue between some of the most important national and international scholars in the field of environmental ethics and young Italian authors. While it illustrates some of the most representative perspectives in the field, it also encourages new protagonists to directly enter the debate. The title of this volume, Environmental Ethics: Voices and Perspectives, represents quite well the structure of this collective project. Instead of a comprehensive handbook of environmental ethics, this is a valuable account of the voices that collaborated in this initiative and of the perspectives investigated by them. This ongoing dialogue is held in the hope that it will help and spur to delve into the problems here tackled. The starting question from which the entire project begins is «why study environmental ethics?». There are many possible answers. From these answers emerge an account of the experiences of personal research and a valuable academic dialogue related to the aims of this volume. As a matter of fact, the study of environmental ethics is not only a general knowledge of the subject nor a mere acquisition of key concepts, but also - and above all - the comprehension of the problems and proposals at stake, in order to increase one's critical awareness about the prejudices related to our relationship with the environment. More than anything else, this critical awareness is the final purpose of the contributions here collected, that should not be intended as a further thorough record of the debate. Instead, this volume aims at giving reference points for those who are interested in approaching the study of environmental ethics - and getting involved with it.
