"Othello" is the definitive play on the theme of jealousy. In this remorseless tragedy, first performed in 1604, William Shakespeare's most malevolent villain, Iago, aide to Othello, plants the seed of the green-eyed monster in the mind of his master, incubating it with vile insinuations until it devours the great man and the lives of those he loves. Iago believes he has been unfairly treated by the Moor, who is completely unaware of it, so both are carried through the drama on tides of delusion. This is what places "Othello "among Shakespeare's masterpieces-driven by the spiteful impulses to which all of us are at some time susceptible, the course of life can go horribly awry.

5Good value and much more than just the play script.
By Frinnie
This was a required book on my daughter's A level English Literature reading list. The text is such that there is plenty of room to make notes and underline text if required. As well as the play, there are number of extras including a Background of the play ie England in 1604, Government, Religion, Education and others. There is a list of William Shakespere's other works date list and a chapter of Exploring Othello in the Classrom, and a synopsis scene by scene. There are a number of photographs of actors performing the play and pencil drawing illustrations used throughout the book.

4A brilliant easy to understand copy for students
By Geekly Reviews
I didn't find this as enjoyable as As You Like It but this is a brilliant copy for students. There are plenty of notes alongside the text, helping understanding and interpretation. Especially when the meaning might be unclear. The book also contains lots of helpful information in the About the Play section and running parallel alongside the play is a key word translation like a dictionary, helping understanding of the text.A brilliant copy.

5The definitive edition
By Mark Twain
An essential part of the Open University's 2nd year "A230 Reading and Studying Literature" course, from the Renaissance section. A tragic tale of love, jealousy, betrayal and deceit. This Oxford version contains a huge amount of information, clarifying and analysing this classic play. 11/10.
